Report is the
second in a series of spatial and architectural
investigations of resonance. Using only a microphone,
mixer, and speakers, I establish a room's acoustic
character through the impact of microphone against
architecture. By touching, rubbing, scratching, and
striking surfaces within the selected environment, I
generate reverberant, plosive sound events and nodal
excitations that form an acoustic sketch of the room. The
microphone can also be turned inwards towards my own body
where clothing, skin, and corporeal matter become another
set of locations for modifying and supplementing acoustic
resonances. A direct connection is established between my
performing body and the architectural body that contains
the event. Report was realized for my MFA thesis at Bard
College as a set of multi-hour performances at the UBS
Gallery in Red Hook, New York. It was most recently
presented at Overgaden Institut for Samtidskunst in
Copenhagen, Denmark. LARM review by Trine Friis Sørensen Images: Report, 2010 |
